What Happens During an Empowerment Photography Session? Veronica’s Journey to Seeing Herself Differently
What if you could look at a photograph of yourself and see something you had never been able to see before?
Not a smaller waist.
Not smoother skin.
Not a younger version of yourself.
Yourself.
Beautiful. Powerful. Worth celebrating.
That’s what an Empowerment Session is really about.
Recently, I had the privilege of spending several hours creating an Empowerment Photography Session with Veronica, an incredible woman who wanted to celebrate how far she has come in her own body and continue moving forward on her path toward self-acceptance and self-love.

And somewhere between the flowers, the bathtub, the beautiful spaces we discovered, and the photographs we created together, something happened that reminded me exactly why I love doing this work.
She saw herself differently.
And she cried.
Why Veronica Chose an Empowerment Photography Session
Veronica didn’t book a session because she thought she needed to become someone else first.
She booked it because she wanted to honor where she was now.
She wanted to take the time to create empowering portraits of herself while she was on her own journey toward greater self-love and acceptance.
I think there is something incredibly powerful about that decision.
We are so often taught to wait.
Wait until we lose the weight.
Wait until our bodies look different.
Wait until we feel more confident.
Wait until we have accomplished whatever arbitrary thing we’ve decided will finally make us “worthy” of being photographed.
But what if the photograph isn’t a reward for arriving at the destination?
What if it can be part of the journey?
That’s the heart of an Empowerment Photography Session with me.
An Empowerment Session Isn’t Just a Photo Shoot
One of the things that makes these sessions different is that we don’t rush them.
Veronica and I had time.
Time to talk.
Time to explore.
Time to notice what was working.
Time to try something completely different when an idea came to us.
We used many different areas of the house we had chosen for her session, allowing the space itself to inspire us. Rather than walking into a predetermined set of poses and checking them off a list, we moved through the environment and created together.
Sometimes the best photographs happen because we planned them.
And sometimes they happen because we looked around and said:
“Wait. What if we tried this?”
That creative freedom is one of the reasons I believe location matters so much.
The right space can become part of the story.

The Importance of Taking Your Time
There is a reason I don’t want to squeeze an Empowerment Session into an artificially short amount of time.
You can’t rush connection.
You can’t rush trust.
And you certainly can’t rush that moment when a woman stops worrying about how she looks and starts inhabiting her own body.
At the beginning of a session, it’s completely normal to feel nervous.
You may not know what to do with your hands.
You may not know how to stand.
You may be wondering whether you’re going to like any of the photographs.
That’s okay.
You don’t have to know how to pose. That’s my job.

My job is to guide you, encourage you, notice the little things, find the light, and create an environment where you can relax enough to let your personality and your beauty come through.
Your job is simply to show up.
And Then There Was the Bathtub

One of my favorite parts of Veronica’s session happened in the bathtub.
She was surrounded by beautiful flowers, and we were working together to create something that felt artistic, feminine and completely her.
As I photographed her, I kept looking at the back of my camera and gushing.
Because she looked amazing.
Eventually, I turned the camera toward her so she could see a little glimpse of what I was seeing.
She looked at the photograph.
And then the tears came.
She said:
“I never thought I’d see myself that way.”
That moment stopped me.
Because that is exactly why I believe photography can be so much more than taking pictures.
Sometimes we need someone else to reflect something back to us before we can see it for ourselves.
Sometimes we need to see the photograph before we can believe the words.
You are beautiful.
You are powerful.
You are worthy of taking up space.
You are worth celebrating right now.
“I Never Thought I’d See Myself That Way.”

I keep coming back to Veronica’s words because I think so many women understand them.
Maybe you’ve looked in the mirror and only noticed the things you wish were different.
Maybe you have spent years being critical of your body.
Maybe you’ve gone through changes that have made it difficult to recognize yourself.
Maybe you’re on a journey of healing, self-acceptance, or simply learning to be kinder to yourself.
Or maybe you don’t have a dramatic story at all.
Maybe you just looked at yourself one day and realized:
I want photographs of me, too.
Not just photographs of your children.
Not just family photographs.
Not just the photographs where you’re standing behind the camera.
You.
As you are.
Now.

What Happens Before Your Empowerment Photography Session?
This experience begins long before the camera comes out.
When you inquire about an Empowerment Session, we start with a conversation.
My process begins with a Creative Clarity Call, where we talk about what you’re envisioning and what you want this experience to mean to you.
We’ll discuss things like:
- What you’re hoping to express through your photographs
- Hair and makeup
- Wardrobe and styling
- Possible locations
- The feeling and aesthetic you’re drawn toward
- Ideas you’ve been dreaming about
- What makes you feel confident
- Any concerns or insecurities you may have about being photographed
We can talk through all of it.
And if you don’t know exactly what you want yet?
That’s okay, too.
That’s part of what I’m here for.
Together, we’ll figure it out.
Finding the Right Location

Veronica’s session is a perfect example of why I believe location deserves real thought.
The house we chose gave us multiple spaces to work with, and instead of treating the location as merely a backdrop, we allowed it to become part of the creative process.
A bedroom can tell one story.
A window can create another.
A bathtub surrounded by flowers can become something completely unexpected.
The right location gives us room to experiment.
It gives us opportunities.
And most importantly, it gives us the time and space to create photographs that don’t feel like everyone else’s.
That’s why finding the right location is part of the Creative Clarity process.
What Veronica Had to Say Afterward
After her session, Veronica told me:
“Now I understand why it takes time to do this right, and why you need at least a couple of hours and the perfect location. You can’t rush this or make this happen in a less than ideal location. It’s worth investing in and doing it right.”
That means so much to me.
Because she understood something that I want every potential client to understand before she ever steps in front of my camera:
This is an experience.
The photographs are the tangible result.
But the experience of creating them matters, too.
And the Final Compliment?
Veronica also shared in her testamonial:
“Martha is so talented. Not only did she create a safe and fun atmosphere but captured the most stunning photos. I’m in awe of the treasures I have from my session. Highly recommend!”
Creating a safe and fun atmosphere is not an accidental part of what I do.
It’s essential.
You cannot create vulnerable, honest, beautiful portraits without trust.
And you don’t have to walk into my camera already feeling confident.
Sometimes confidence is what we discover along the way.
Who Is an Empowerment Photography Session For?
Honestly?
You don’t need a particular reason.
An Empowerment Session might be right for you if you’re:
- Celebrating a milestone birthday
- Entering a new chapter of your life
- Learning to love your body
- Rebuilding your confidence
- Celebrating how far you’ve come
- Marking a personal transformation
- Rediscovering yourself after years of putting everyone else first
- Wanting beautiful portraits of yourself simply because you want them
- Looking for a meaningful experience rather than just another photo shoot
And you don’t need to look like a model.
You don’t need to know how to pose.
You don’t need to have everything figured out.
You just need to be willing to show up as yourself.
I’ll take care of the rest.
Your Photographs Deserve a Physical Life
One of the things I talk about during the planning process is what happens to your photographs after the session.
Because I don’t believe these images should necessarily live forever on a hard drive or disappear into the endless scroll of your phone.
These photographs were created to be experienced.
Held.
Seen.
Remembered.
That’s why we talk about albums, prints and other ways your photographs can have a physical life in your home.
Imagine walking past an image of yourself every day and remembering:
That woman is me.
Not who you used to be.
Not who you think you should be.
You.
Right now.
Maybe You Don’t Need to Wait
Maybe you’ve been thinking about doing something like this for a while.
Maybe you’ve been waiting until you feel more confident.
Maybe you’ve been waiting until your body changes.
Maybe you’ve been waiting until life calms down.
Maybe you’ve been waiting for the “right” time.
But Veronica’s session reminded me of something I believe very deeply:
You don’t have to wait until you love everything about yourself to begin celebrating yourself.
Sometimes the photographs can help you get there.
Sometimes seeing yourself through someone else’s eyes can be the beginning.
And sometimes, all it takes is one photograph to make you think:
“I never thought I’d see myself that way.”
Ready to Create Your Own Empowerment Session?
If you’ve been wondering what an Empowerment Photography Session might look like for you, let’s talk.
We’ll start with an inquiry and a conversation. From there, we’ll schedule a video consultation so we can get to know each other and decide whether we’re a good fit.
Once you’ve booked, we’ll continue with a questionnaire and your Creative Clarity Call, where we’ll work through the details—from wardrobe and hair and makeup to location, creative ideas and how you want your finished photographs to live in the world.
I serve women throughout Broward County, Southern Palm Beach County and Northern Miami-Dade County, including Coral Springs, Fort Lauderdale, Parkland, Boca Raton and surrounding South Florida communities.
You don’t have to know exactly what you want before you reach out.
You just have to be curious about what might happen if you gave yourself the time and space to see yourself differently.
